MAGNUM OPUS COLLECTIO SERIES is a set of three volumes, each inspired by the different phases of the alchemical process, which works with the prima materia to create the philosopher‘s stone.
The three phases of alchemic process have been used in the Hermetic tradition to describe personal and spiritual transmutation, as well as a medium in art and literature. These three phases also have been meant by Carl Gustav Jung as a model for the individuation process, an unrepeatable psychic process, which leads each individual to approach his ego with the self. In other words the individuation process is a progressive integration and unification of all shadows and complexes forming the personality within oneself.
In the Jungian archetypal scheme, NIGREDO is the Shadow; ALBEDO refers to anima and animus and RUBEDO is the archetype of the Self that has reached completeness.
In the context of Jung’s analytical psychology, the term has become a metaphor for the dark night of the soul, when an individual is led to confront the Shadow within himself.
The subject’s painful, growing awareness of his shadow aspects, generally described as a moment of utmost despair, is for Jung a prerequisite for personal development in the path of individuation. The confrontation with the Shadow first generates a stasis, a disillusionment, a setback that slows down the action and shows the ineffectiveness of one’s convictions. Only later does what is called enantiodromia in philosophy, that is the reversal into the opposite: the nigredo gives way to the albedo, the ever deeper descent into the unconscious suddenly turns into an illumination from above.
This project involved the painter Valentina Bardazzi as the creator of three artwork concepts. The work will be on sale in digital form on Bandcamp, under the merchandise section of Undogmatisch. Every exemplar is printed on special matt paper and is signed by the artist.
All artists that has made possible this project are from Italy, Germany, Denmark, China, Iran, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Poland but mostly based in Berlin and gravitating somehow around or close to Undogmatisch.
